News from the Legislative Session - January 11, 2008

Today in the Legislature

This morning we debated the permanent rules for the 2008 session. These are the rules that will govern the process and the procedures the Legislature will use for hearings, legislation, etc. There were a few changes to last year's rules, but for the most part they are the same. On Monday we will begin debate on bills that carried over from last year as well as bills that have been prioritized for this year.

The first priority bill for this year will be LB 253 - which creates a motorcycle training and safety act as well as allows motorcyclists who meet the requirements in the bill the option to choose whether to wear a helmet or not. That debate will begin at 1:30 on Monday.
