Today in the Legislature
This morning we continued to discuss some non-controversial and generally technical bills. We advanced a couple of bills and confirmed quite a few appointees until we reached Sen. Avery's bill to create a commission to study the area around the capitol.
Currently the city of Lincoln has the authority and responsibility for it and much discussion centered around why the city of Lincoln isn't doing this on their own. No action was taken on this bill, but I can tell you from the initial conversation this morning that new commissions and task forces may have a tough sled being created this year. Which isn't all bad.
Tomorrow afternoon the Agriculture Committee will hold a public hearing at 1:30 pm (CST) in Room 1510 in the State Capitol. LB 1174 would rewrite Initiative 300 in statute. I had requested that NET broadcast the hearing, but unfortunately we could not get that arranged.
Today in the General Affairs Committee
The committee met in executive session today.
We advanced LB 723 with an amendment and LB 1058 with an amendment.
