Students Selected for 2008 Student Senator Program
Sixteen students from the 47th District have been selected to participate in the 2008 Student Senator Program. These students were chosen based on their applications and the recommendations of their references, but ultimately by the information submitted to my office which was reviewed objectively. In order to accomplish objectivity, no one from the district, including myself, selected the student senators.
Student senators will come to Lincoln March 31 through April 2 and participate in mock committee hearings and debates, observe the Legislature in session, tour state facilities, and meet with state senators from across the state. They will also have the opportunity to meet with Governor Heineman and other constitutional officers.
Student Senators selected (by county) include: Rebekah Knaub, Shaun Jones, and Tyler Gifford of Banner County; Hannah Fagler, Morgan Fricke, Timothy Kinoshita, and Nicole Littlejohn of Deuel County; Seth Oliverius, Nicole Troelstrup, and Monica Kurth of Cheyenne County; Christopher Fischer, Marshall Milanuk, and Jessie Bolton of Garden County; and Mollie Baliman, Katie Haun, and Emily Stull of Kimball County.
I have been extremely impressed with the talented students who have applied and attended our Student Senator Program in the past seven years. I look forward to meeting each of these students and hearing their input on issues affecting the state. I started the Student Senator Program to be a vital tool to involve our young people in becoming an active citizen in our republic both today and in the future.
This program is made possible solely by contributing sponsors from the district. We welcome additional sponsors for this year’s program. If you are interested in how you can help, contact Melissa Lunsford at 1-866-800-7445.
